1962 Ford Thunderbird Coupe The Jet age is in full swing, the country is riding high on Beatle mania, towering beehive hair doo's, fur boots, and getting to the moon before the end of the decade. To mirror these times the Ford Motor Company put elements of design into the Thunderbird for 1962. A jet age front, and thruster rear taillight configuration, all in sophisticated black exterior, this hardtop is perfect for a boulevard cruise that will certainly turn heads. Exterior This "R" title (Due to flooding and was changed to the "R" title prior to 1992) was brought back to life with all necessary repairs, and problems addressed. That said the original coded white top has been painted black to match the remainder of the car. All steel looks straight and dent free. Paint shows some chipping around roof area where it meets the body, and trunk and hood have a few nicks. Chrome bumpers, and bright work are all in good condition, with only rear quarter panel faux vents showing slight wear on the chrome. Kelsey Hayes knockoff wire wheels are on all 4 corners. Interior Chestnut interior, original to the car is seen, and is in full glory, with near perfect bucket seats in front, and a bench in the back. A sleek console makes its way to the dash, and houses the vinyl covered console glove box, and ashtray. Horizontal ribbed aluminum snakes its way up the dash and proceeds to spread out from side to side over the dash front, and houses the heater and air flow controls, light switches, logos and a very cool swing away steering wheel. Above this are 2 Chestnut vinyl wing like structures (can you say bird?) that form the padded dash top. A speaker, radio, and a 3-gauge cluster is within these swoops, and all appear in excellent condition. Power windows, power steering, power driver's seat, and power brakes are installed options. Drivetrain The M code engine, original to the car, which is deemed a 390ci 340hp Tri power V8 is seen with a pop of the hood. An automatic transmission is bolted to the back. The correct 406 factory aluminum heads, aluminum intake, special camshaft, oil pump and distributor specially ordered on "M" code cars. Also noted are dual exhausts, original air cleaner, chromed valve covers, chrome master cylinder cover, chrome power steering cap, and a chromed tip dipstick are highlighting the engine. Newly upgraded are a re-cored radiator, water pump, fuel pump, rebuilt carbs including throttle shaft bushings, fuel tank and sending unit. This car has also been converted to electronic ignition.
